“Summertime is always the best of what might be.” – Charles Bowden
Summertime is indeed the best time of the year! Days are longer and the weather is perfect to go out and explore different things. What makes it even more special for students is a break from school. Since they have plenty of time at their disposal, they can do anything that they want to do. Students must realise that summer break is a great opportunity to explore many things, to be productive, to learn and create something new. A healthy balance between relaxing and keeping your mind engaged in a productive way is the right approach when it comes to planning your vacations.
There are infinite ways through which students can make their summertime more productive. Here are a few suggestions that they can consider:
- Building a new hobby: Exploring or learning something new from scratch can be a fun way to spend summer break. Students should try to explore different things like pottery, cooking, photography, painting, gardening, or even learning a musical instrument. It’s the perfect time to indulge and learn something new!
- Volunteering for a cause: Summer vacations are the ideal time for students to volunteer for the causes they believe in. It can be a day-long project or one which lasts for the entire break. Students can consider tutoring the underprivileged or even cleaning an area in their locality that needs attention. Volunteering for such things will help induce a sense of social responsibility in students. Learning the art of giving back to the society from a young age helps in building character and makes them responsible citizens of tomorrow.
- Recreational reading: Reading as a regular habit increases vocabulary and attention span amongst students. It sometimes becomes slightly difficult to read books outside the curriculum during school. Since students have a lot of time during summer vacation, they should definitely try to read books from different genres and eras. This helps in developing a taste for reading and gain perspective.
- Watching informative things: The long summer days are ideal to just laze around and do nothing. While it is definitely tempting to spend time playing video games or just sitting in front of the TV, it is recommended to watch quality television which will help students enhance their knowledge on topics of their interest. Channels like Discovery or even new-age platforms like Netflix have a plethora of educational series which can be explored by students.
- Travelling/discovering new places: Travel and exploration should definitely be a part of summer break for students. Travel gives students a chance to learn about diverse cultures. So students should be given a chance to go on an expedition and document their experiences which they can later share with their fellow classmates.
There are many productive things that students can consider doing during their summer break. The sole idea behind summer vacation is to give students an opportunity to learn how to utilize their time by striking the perfect balance between relaxation, fun, and learning. And when students come back to school after the break, they are all rested and relaxed.
